The Whole World is a Stage: Silver Linings

Exploring my own internal landscape of both pain and desire, I’ve created a world of postindustrial yearning that parallels contemporary experience. Wounded and vulnerable, characters emerge from biomorphic ceramic forms which call to mind the body’s fragility and capacity for memory. Through the manufacturing of their space with both manmade and natural materials, like cinderblocks and wood, I highlight these enmeshed and warring states of society. Evolving from the earlier installation, “The Whole World is a Stage” this version further explores the viewers' experience in the space. By connecting each sculpture to another with thick silver cord, the space becomes a web for the viewer to explore if they wish to take the risk. The encompassing nature of the work facilitates an awareness of self in relation to the work's themes of vulnerability and the precarious nature of connectedness. This iteration of The Whole World is a Stage was installed in May of 2017.
