About Alex

I grew up on a small blueberry farm in the middle of nowhere Georgia. I got immense satisfaction roaming the woods, gathering materials for little sculptures, and creating stories for myself, but the desire to connect with people, to explore, to learn was pervasive. After graduating at the top of my class, I caught the first ride to Athens, Georgia where I fought doubt and questions relentlessly to get my BFA at the University of Georgia. Clay became my conduit for processing my experience in this world, as a woman, in the South, and it gave me a way to speak, and often, to scream.

While my studies at UGA were coming to a close, I felt there was still so much to learn, so many more languages in clay that I needed in my fingertips. So I committed to the University of Miami and began pursuing my Masters. 463 miles from the farm, I began to grow, finding that in Miami, it is always the season of flourishing.

After graduating with my Masters, I have started my own business, Creations By Alex Hodge, to share my work with the world. I also teach in school and studio settings, as well as online.

When I am not working in my studio, I love to sit on the beach and catch the sunset, in between pages of poetry in which women remind me the power of creativity, of giving life, that this is a journey and there is always another fight.
