Goddesses and Other Lone Works

One of my most recent works, “Just Between Us (a small, gutting joy pried from this devolving),” 2026, revisits the juxtaposition of historical pottery forms, in this case Greek funerary vases, and contemporary imagery and text. Hand built and decorated with a combination of painting and carving, the vases memorialize women’s experiences.
Created at the same time, this vase is titled “A Room of Her Own,” 2026, and was also hand built and decorated using sgraffito, i.e. carving through color. It features an excerpt from Mary Oliver’s poem “Invitation” :

it is a serious thing

just to be alive
on this fresh morning
in the broken world.
